Quello che l’impegno dedicato a questa idea rivolta ai giovani progettisti sia per tutti piacevole e appassionante, almeno quanto lo è per noi di Sly.

Next Sly Contest 2008-2009: the jury
The list of those will elect the first edition winner has been defined. This is a
panel of 11 precious unique and really important jurors. Sly Yachts would like to
bestow an official thank you all for the honour and the pleasure to have you close
to us in this project directed towards the future…and a special wish: may the commitment
of this idea for young designers be as fascinating and exciting for everyone
as it was for us at Sly.
Mr Enrico and Mr Alessandro Franchini; Mr. Pierluigi Turchi
Yard owners and heart of the Sly project and Sales Manager, they voted as only one
person. This choice has been induced by the desire to maintain the very sense of the
Contest – to design the Sly of the future – but without imposing too much weight on
the internal balance of the jury.

Famous designer and first creator of Sly, he is the ideal trait d’union between
Sly and technological research He will offer the best support in terms of interpretation
of the theme and analysis of construction and structural details explained in the
projects.

Con l’arrivo della stagione invernale può essere utile tenere a mente qualche suggerimento
per evitare che l’imbarcazione possa danneggiarsi nei mesi di freddo più rigido.
Tendenzialmente se la barca viene lasciata in acqua non ci sono grandi accorgimenti
da prendere, mentre ci vuole moltissima attenzione, quando si sceglie di metterla
in secca (cosa più probabile per i nostri clienti del Nord Europa).
Solitamente è’ buona norma
- svuotare il boiler
- verificare che le sentine siano asciutte così come i wc. Per maggiore sicurezza
è consigliabile cospargere le zone interessate con un po’ di liquido antigelo, lo
stesso che normalmente si utilizza nelle automobili.
- svuotare il serbatoi dell’acqua e staccare i tubi dell’autoclave
- nel motore: controllare attentamente che non ci sia acqua nella marmitta del
silenziatore e anche in quel caso utilizzare un po’ di liquido antigelo
- valutare l’opportunità di togliere le batterie.
The good maintenance of the boat during the winter season
Winter has come and it could be helpful keep in mind a couple of good suggestions,
in order to avoid damages during the cold months.
Normally if the boat stays in water, you won’t have big problems. You must pay more
attention if you decide to take it out (this happens especially to our customers in
North Europe)
Normally you should…
- empty the boiler
- control that the bilges are dry and the wc as well. Eventually, you can put
some antifreeze liquid inside (the same one you use for your car)
- empty the water tanks and take off the autoclave tubes
- engine: control not to leave water in the silencer and use eventually an antifreeze
liquid.
- evaluate the opportunity to take off the batteries
Sono tutti con il fiato sospeso i 21 partecipanti che hanno inviato il loro progetto presso la sede del cantiere e che attendono ora il responso della giuria. Il nome del vincitore verrà reso ufficiale durante una cerimonia, il 18 gennaio in occasione del Boot di Düsseldorf.
Mentre la composizione del panel dei giurati giunge alle ultime fasi, è già possibile formulare un primo bilancio sull’esito dell’edizione 2008-2009. Cominciamo con il numero dei progetti in gara, in tutto 14, provenienti da varie parti del mondo. Una quantità più che soddisfacente se si pensa che questa iniziativa è stata inaugurata quest’anno per la prima volta e con un tema di grande complessità da svolgersi in soli tre mesi: l’intera progettazione di una barca, dallo scafo, al piano velico, dal layout degli interni a quello di coperta.
Buona anche l’affluenza di designer e studenti stranieri, quasi il 50% degli iscritti al concorso: un buon bilanciamento che dimostra come Sly sia ormai un cantiere riconosciuto a livello internazionale Paesi e che conferma ancora una volta il prestigio della nautica made in Italy.
Una nota importante, la considerazione che accanto agli studenti appaiono fra gli iscritti designer già inseriti nel mondo del lavoro, progettisti presenti in Studi specializzati che hanno trovato nel Concorso la giusta occasione per rimettersi in gioco, per creare innovazione e insieme mettersi in contatto con il Cantiere. Entusiasmo, impegno e tanta creatività: il primo screening delle tavole giunte in cantiere ha subito evidenziato la grande passione per la nautica che anima tutti questi giovani pronti a immaginare insieme a noi lo Sly de futuro.
Bene anche l’interpretazione dei temi ecologici richiesti a bando
a dimostrazione di come sia un’esigenza sempre più condivisa saper progettare nella
tutela dell’ambiente: ecco così proposte con pannelli solari, propulsione ibrida,
materiali innovativi…Una nuova onda di sensibilizzazione che riflette la sempre più
comune occorrenza di grande rispetto per la natura e amore vero per il mare.
Il 21 novembre il cantiere renderà ufficiali i nomi dei giurati, che
procederanno così alle votazioni conclusive. Quelle che stabiliranno il primo attesissimo
vincitore di Next Sly Contest.

Next Sly Contest. Creativity and enthusiasm, waiting for the winner announcement
They are all with bated breath the 21 competitors who sent their projects to the yard and are waiting now for the response of the jury. The name of the winner will be made official next 18 January during a special ceremony, on occasion of the Boot Düsseldorf.
While the composition of the Jury is at its last stage, it is already possible to express a first balance of this edition. The 21 competitors designed and presented 14 projects, coming form all over the world. This is a great result if we consider the very short time granted to the designers: only three months for the total design of a boat, from the hull to the sail plan, from the interior layout to the deck plan.
The good affluence of designers and students coming from foreign countries,
almost 50%, shows again how Sly is considered an international trend setter
in the nautical field, qualifying itself, as a worldwide point of reference, symbol
of the research talent and the excellence of the made in Italy in the world.
It is important to point out that not only students are in the list of competitors,
but also graduated designers, already working for specialized offices,
who found in the Contest the opportunity to put themselves at stake, to create innovation,
to get in touch with the Yard. Enthusiasm, passion and creativity: the first screening
of the designs, highlights the great fervour that all the participants lavished, imagining
with us the Sly if the future.
Also the interpretation of the ecological subjects, requested in the competition rules, was very good and a proof of a more and more shared need of designing, keeping in mind the environmental protection: so we got proposals with sun panels, hybrid propulsion, innovative materials. This is a new wave of sensibility that reflects the common need for respect of nature and love for sea.
The jury members, their names will be official on the 21st of November,
have now the important commitment of examining the projects with care and choose who
will win this edition of the Next Sly Contest.

Grande successo per la prima edizione di Next Sly Contest: il concorso, ideato da Sly Yachts, si è chiuso ieri, registrando ben 44 concorrenti, provenienti da tutto il mondo.
In attesa dell’arrivo dei progetti, per cui la scadenza è il 31 ottobre, sarà possibile consultare il minisito dell’iniziativa ancora accessibile dalla home page di www.sly-yachts.com.
Nei prossimi giorni una speciale area del sito verrà dedicata a tutti i dettagli di questa prima edizione, all’avanzamento dei lavori, e alla convocazione della giuria.

Great success for the first edition of Next Sly Contest: the competition promoted
by Sly Yachts was closed yesterday, registering 44 competitors coming from all over
the world.
Meanwhile the projects arrive (deadline on 31st of October), it is still possible to check the contest website from the home page of www.sly-yachts.com
In the next days a special area dedicated to the contest will show all the details
about this first edition, the work in progress and the holding of the jury.
The prize giving and the official announcement of the winner will take place at the
Boot Düsseldorf.
Ultimissimi giorni per iscriversi a Next Sly Contest 2008, il concorso rivolto a giovani designer che premierà il progetto più brillante e la migliore interpretazione dello "Sly del futuro".
Il concorso ha registrato finora almeno 30 concorrenti provenienti da tutti i paesi europei, a conferma del grande successo riscosso dall'iniziativa a livello internazionale. Il tema di questa edizione è la progettazione di un'imbarcazione a vela destinata al charter, di lunghezza compresa tra i 14 e i 16 metri. Ai giovani concorrenti è richiesta creatività, ma anche la capacità di interpretare al meglio i temi che più stanno a cuore al cantiere: ecologia, innovazione, grinta, ma anche divertimento e amore per il mare. Alla fine di ottobre verrà convocata la giuria che, come annunciato, sarà composta da un panel internazionale di giornalisti, tecnici e rappresentanti del cantiere.

Last days to enter the "Next Sly Contest", the competition promoted by Sly
Yachts to award young designers for the most brilliant idea and interpretation of
the "Next Sly" yacht.
The contest has now 30 competitors coming from all over Europe as a confirmation of the international great success achieved by this project. The theme for the first year of the competition is to design a charter sailboat between 14 and 16 meters long. The young competitors will have to show creativity and capacity of best playing at best the themes that Sly values most: ecology, innovation, grit, fun and love for sailing. As announced, at the end of October the contest organization will hold the jury, which will be composed by an international panel of journalists, experts and representatives of the yard.

Venerdì 25 Luglio, al largo della Corsica, è stato recuperato con successo lo Sly
47 “See you later”. Una volta a terra, la barca è stata immediatamente visionata e
ispezionata dai tecnici del cantiere, che si sono recati sul posto per approfondire
quanto accaduto durante la Giraglia Rolex Cup.
Fin dalle prime verifiche è apparsa evidente la bontà della laminazione dello scafo.
I carotaggi effettuati sullo stesso hanno infatti dato esiti del tutto positivi e
conformi al progetto, che risulta eseguito a regola d’arte.
Gli sviluppi delle ricerche continueranno a essere comunicati su questo blog, nel costante desiderio di fare chiarezza sull’incidente e dare le massime garanzie sul nostro prodotto.
Sly 47 “See you later” has been recovered
On Friday the 25th of July, off Corsica, the Sly 47 “See you later” was successfully recovered. Once ashore she has been immediately examined by professionals of the yard in order to study in depth what happened during the Giraglia rolex Cup.
Since the first inspections it appeared evident that the hull lamination was excellent: the logs made on it gave positive results according to the project, which was well done.
The developments of this research will be communicated on this blog, since we whish to clear up the accident and give the best warranty of our products for the safety of our customers.
Continuano le iscrizioni al Next Sly Contest. A quaranta giorni dall’apertura ufficiale sono
già molte le adesioni da tutta Europa per il concorso promosso e organizzato
da Sly Yachts che premierà le migliori idee e i progettisti più innovativi del
settore nautico.
Il concorso rivolto a giovani designer laureati e studenti ha ora all’attivo una ventina
di concorrenti, provenienti da molti paesi (Gran Bretagna, Francia, Olanda, Italia…).
Una conferma che fin dal primo momento la competizione ha raccolto un forte interesse
non solo in Italia, ma anche all’estero.

Young designers on the wave of innovation
Forty days after the official opening, from all over Europe are coming the many entries for the Next Sly Contest, the first competition promoted by Sly Yachts with the aim of singling out the best ideas and most innovative designers in the boating sector.
The contest, that calls on students and degree-holding designers, has already twenty competitors, coming form different countries (United Kingdom, France, Holland, Italy…). A confirmation that the international scope of the contest achieved a widespread success, not only here, but also abroad.
The theme for the first year of the competition is to design a charter sailboat
between 14 and 16 meters long. To the young competitors will be requested creativity
and the capacity of best playing the themes that Sly values the most: ecology, innovation,
grit, fun and love for sailing.
Next Sly Contest will award the one who will conceive the Sly of the future, a boat
marked out by the same concept that represents the force of the brand: a perfect mix
between beauty and speed, performances and cruising, technology and passion.

Siamo lieti di constatare che la nostra iniziativa di avviare una discussione aperta stia cominciando ad avere un certo seguito. Proseguiamo quindi con gli aggiornamenti sulla situazione di See you later. Innanzitutto un chiarimento: sembra che la barca non sia affondata, è stata infatti segnalata da un mercantile il 3 luglio a 50 miglia a sud di Hyères. Il cantiere sta collaborando con armatore e assicurazione per verificare la segnalazione e tentare il recupero. Purtroppo non si tratta di una operazione semplice e servirà un po’ di tempo.
Sly Yachts nel frattempo non ha sospeso le indagini, tutt’altro. Il cantiere, con l’aiuto dei progettisti e la consulenza di un noto strutturista italiano, sta tentando di formulare delle ipotesi e di ricostruire le dinamiche dell’incidente a partire da testimonianze, fotografie e quanto in nostro possesso al momento.
Secondo una prima ricostruzione sembra che la struttura sia stata danneggiata durante una collisione precedente alla Giraglia e che l’attacco della chiglia si sia deteriorato durante la navigazione. Un’ipotesi che sarebbe avvallata dal tipo di lacerazione visibile nelle immagini e che al momento sembra la più probabile. Questo aspetto, però, non sarà del tutto chiarito finché lo scafo non sarà stato recuperato e analizzato.
Per quanto riguarda la domanda sul ragno che ci pone Tristano, confermiamo che il ragno è vuoto, ma si tratta di una prassi comune su quasi tutte le imbarcazioni: ormai gli omega pieni vengono prodotti quasi esclusivamente nei prototipi. Il ragno strutturale è vuoto perché realizzato su stampo femmina e al suo interno si fanno passare gli impianti. Essendo cavo è dimensionato secondo la struttura e le sue pareti sono conseguentemente maggiorate.
New updating about “See you later”…
Glad to see that the open discussion on our blog has some followers, we go on with the updated news about the condition of “See you later”. First of all a clarification: it seems that the boat is not sunk as it was seen by a merchant ship on the 3rd of July at 50 miles south off Hyères. The yard is cooperating with the owner and the insurance company to verify the notification and to attempt the recovery. Unfortunately this is not an easy work and we will need a bit of time.
Meanwhile Sly Yachts has been still inquiring. The yard, thanks to the help of the designer and a famous Italian structural engineer, is trying to advance a hypothesis and to reconstruct what happened starting from testimonies, pictures and whatever we own at the moment.
According to a first reconstruction, it seems that the structure has been damaged during a collision, occurred before the Giraglia. After that the keel juncture started ruining and collapsed during the navigation. This theory could be confirmed by the laceration which is visible in the pictures. At the moment it seems to be the most probable. This aspect, anyway, will be effectively cleared as soon as we will get the hull and analyse it.
As far as concern the question from Tristano about the structural cage, we confirm that the cage is empty, but this is the normal praxis on most of the boats: actually the full filled omega are produced in the prototypes only.

Il cantiere continua a lavorare per verificare quanto accaduto a Sly 47 “See you later”, nel desiderio di portare avanti tutti gli accertamenti necessari a dimostrare la qualità e la sicurezza delle proprie imbarcazioni. Al momento non siamo in grado di fornirvi maggiori dettagli circa le dinamiche dell’incidente, poiché lo scafo non è stato ancora recuperato dal mare.

The yard goes on with the investigation about the accident occurred to Sly 47 “See you later” with the aim to make clear and demonstrate the quality and safety of its boats. At the moment we can’t provide you more details about the dynamics of the accident, because the hull hasn’t recovered from the sea yet.

Mercoledì 11 giugno durante la tappa lunga della Giraglia Rolex Cup, è occorso un
importante incidente allo Sly 47 “See you later”.
Dopo i fondamentali accertamenti volti ad assicurare l’indennità dell’equipaggio,
l’armatore e il Cantiere hanno immediatamente iniziato a collaborare nel desiderio
di chiarire la causa che ha provocato il distacco della chiglia. Probabilmente un
impatto con un corpo sommerso.
Il Cantiere, che sottolinea come il coefficiente di sicurezza adottato nel progetto e nella costruzione sia di gran lunga superiore sia ai massimi sforzi ipotizzati nell’uso dell’imbarcazione sia a quanto richiesto dalle normative vigenti, desidera anche in questa vicenda confermare la propria ferma presenza accanto all’armatore, nonché la costante volontà e l’interesse prioritario per la sicurezza della propria produzione.

Wednesday 11th of June during the long leg of the Giraglia Rolex Cup, a serious
accident occurred to Sly 47 “See you later”.
After the primary controls to ensure the crew’s safety, the owner and the Yard immediately
started cooperating, wishing to clear up what caused the separation of the keel, probably
an impact with a submerged object.
The Yard underlines that the safety coefficient adopted in the project and in the
construction is considerably higher than the maximum stress meant to be used
by the boat and required by the law in force.
The Yard would also like to confirm his steady presence near the owner in this event,
as well as his firm will and his top priority interest in the safety of his products.
